Captive-bred Link's Goby (Amblygobius linki) is a peaceful sand-sifting goby that stays manageable for smaller reef tanks while still offering plenty of activity and personality. This species spends much of the day working through the substrate, helping keep the sand bed turned over while adding constant movement to the lower part of the aquarium.
Link's Gobies are a strong fit for reef keepers looking for a practical, reef-safe bottom dweller with a calmer disposition. Captive-bred individuals are typically better adjusted to aquarium life and more likely to accept prepared foods, making them an appealing choice for hobbyists who want a useful and engaging fish without the size or disruption of larger sleeper gobies.
Why Keep a Link's Goby?
- Captive-bred and well suited to aquarium life
- Peaceful temperament for community reef setups
- Active sand-sifting behaviour
- Reef safe with corals and sessile invertebrates
- Compact adult size of around 3 inches
Care Notes
This species does best in a mature aquarium with open sand to sift and enough natural microfauna to support natural feeding behaviour. A fine to medium sand bed is ideal, and a tight-fitting lid is strongly recommended, as gobies can jump when startled. While peaceful, Link's Gobies should not be housed with aggressive tankmates or larger fish that may intimidate them.
In most reef aquariums, Link's Gobies readily learn to take prepared foods in addition to their natural sand-sifting behaviour. Offering a varied diet can help keep them in good condition, including high-quality pellets and frozen foods such as PE Pellets Saltwater Fish Food or PE Frozen Mysis Shrimp.
Tank Recommendations
- Minimum tank size: 20 gallons
- Adult size: up to 3 inches
- Temperament: Peaceful
- Reef compatibility: Reef safe
Good Fit For
Link's Gobies are a great choice for reef keepers who want a smaller sand-sifting fish for a nano or midsize setup. They work especially well in peaceful reef communities and are also worth considering alongside other fish in our Captive-Bred Fish collection.

Acclimation
Acclimation
Temperature Match
Place the sealed bag containing the fish or invertebrate into your tank. Allow it to float for 15-20 minutes to gradually equalize the temperature between the bag and your aquarium. This step minimizes stress caused by sudden temperature changes.
Drip Acclimation
Set up a drip acclimation system by using airline tubing. Start a slow siphon from your tank into the bag or bucket containing the fish or invertebrate, allowing water to drip slowly. Acclimate over a period of approximately 30 minutes, gradually increasing the volume of tank water to match salinity and other water parameters.
Check Salinity
Use a refractometer to measure the salinity in the bag or acclimation container. Ensure the salinity matches your tank’s salinity before transferring the fish or invertebrate. Matching salinity helps reduce stress and prevents shock when introducing new animals.
Release Fish/Invert
Gently transfer the fish or invertebrate into the tank, avoiding netting them if possible to reduce physical stress. Allow the animal to swim out on its own if transferring from a container. Discard the acclimation water, as it may contain contaminants.

Foods we use in our fish systems
Farmed, Tested, Trusted
Aquacultured coral, real farm standards, and products we actually use.
New Dawn is built around aquacultured coral, captive-bred marine life, and practical reef support from a real coral farm. Alongside the livestock we grow, we also offer reef products and essentials that reflect the systems, standards, and day-to-day practices behind the farm itself.
Aquacultured Coral
Aquacultured coral is grown in aquarium conditions, which helps it arrive better adapted to life in a reef tank. That often means hardier coral, more predictable performance, and a clearer connection between how it was grown and how it can thrive in a customer’s system.
Farm-used reef products
The reef products we carry are not random add-ons. They are part of the equipment, supplies, and essentials that support our own farm systems and help keep the storefront connected to real reefkeeping practice.
Shipping and pickup
Shipping and local pickup should feel straightforward. We make timing, preparation, and fulfillment expectations clear so you know what to expect before your order is on the way.
Support from the farm
Support should feel direct and practical. From pre-order questions to post-arrival help, New Dawn is built to give reefkeepers a clear path to real assistance when they need it.
