How We Farm Our Macroalgae

How We Farm Our Macroalgae

At New Dawn Aquaculture, all of our macroalgae are grown in fishless hydroponic flood tables. This lets us precisely control nutrition, maintain stability, and produce exceptionally clean, pest‑free macroalgae for your aquarium.

The Fertilizer System We Use

Macro Boost Nitrify Ammplify

Macroalgae require far more than just light to grow—they need a balanced supply of nutrients and trace elements. In a typical reef tank with fish, these nutrients are naturally supplied through feeding and fish waste. But because our systems contain no fish, we add those nutrients ourselves using a three‑part fertilizer system:

  • Macro Boost – A comprehensive trace‑element blend designed specifically for macroalgae health, pigmentation, and growth.
  • Ammplify – A reef‑safe nitrogen source used when no fish are present to supply the macroalgae with needed nitrogen.
  • Phosphorize – A clean, controlled phosphate source to support steady growth.

Together, these create a complete macroalgae fertilizer program: trace elements + nitrogen + phosphorus.

Do You Need All Three Products?

For most hobbyists, no — only the trace‑element component is typically required. In a stocked aquarium, your fish naturally provide nitrogen and phosphorus. So in most cases, all you need to replicate our results at home is:

Macro Boost (Trace Elements)

If you run a fishless refugium, a sterile macro system, or experience chronic nutrient deficiency ("zeroed‑out" nitrate/phosphate), then adding Ammplify and Phosphorize can help restore balanced growth.

Why This Matters

Healthy macroalgae need both major nutrients and trace elements. Our system ensures strong coloration, fast growth, and robust nutrient export — and that same foundation can help your macroalgae thrive at home.
