Captive-bred Coral Beauty Angelfish (Centropyge bispinosa) is one of the most popular dwarf marine angelfish for good reason. It combines vivid orange, blue, and purple coloration with active grazing behaviour and the bold personality many reef keepers want from a centerpiece fish that still fits a medium-sized aquarium. Colour and pattern can vary from fish to fish, which is part of the appeal of this species.
Because this fish is captive-bred and already adjusted to aquarium life, it is often a stronger choice for hobbyists looking for a dwarf angel that is already familiar with prepared foods and captive conditions. That said, it is still an angelfish, and buyers should go in with realistic expectations around grazing behaviour, territory, and reef compatibility.
Why Hobbyists Choose Coral Beauty Angels
- Captive-bred and already adapted to aquarium life
- Brilliant orange-and-blue coloration with natural variation from fish to fish
- Constant movement and browsing behaviour around the rockwork
- A manageable dwarf angelfish size compared with larger marine angels
- Often settles onto prepared foods more readily than delicate wild fish can
What To Expect In The Aquarium
Coral Beauty Angelfish do best in mature marine aquariums with plenty of established rockwork for grazing, retreating, and setting territory. They regularly pick at algae, biofilm, and naturally occurring growth on the rock between feedings, so a sparse or immature setup is usually not the best fit.
This species is generally considered reef safe with caution, not fully reef safe. Well-fed individuals often behave well, but some may still nip at fleshy LPS corals, soft corals, or clam mantles. In many tanks they coexist successfully with coral, but customers should understand that there is always some individual risk when adding a dwarf angel to a reef display.
Care And Compatibility
- Minimum tank size: 70 gallons
- Adult size: around 4 inches
- Temperament: semi-aggressive
- Best for: established reef tanks with caution, or fish-only systems with live rock
Coral Beauties are usually peaceful with unrelated fish of similar temperament, but they can become territorial with other dwarf angelfish and may also challenge timid tankmates once established. Introduce them to an aquarium with plenty of hiding places and enough structure to break lines of sight.
Feeding
A varied diet helps keep this species in good condition and may reduce the chance of coral picking. Offer a mix of quality prepared foods and vegetable matter rather than relying on a single food source. Useful options from our fish-feeding lineup include Nori Sheets for supplemental grazing, PE Pellets Saltwater Fish Food for everyday prepared feeding, PE Flake Saltwater Fish Food for variety, and PE Frozen Mysis Shrimp for a meaty component in the rotation.
Before You Order
This is a great fit for reef keepers who want the look and personality of a marine angelfish without moving into the size range of larger angels. The best results usually come from mature aquariums, consistent feeding, and realistic expectations about reef compatibility. Acclimation
Acclimation
Temperature Match
Place the sealed bag containing the fish or invertebrate into your tank. Allow it to float for 15-20 minutes to gradually equalize the temperature between the bag and your aquarium. This step minimizes stress caused by sudden temperature changes.
Drip Acclimation
Set up a drip acclimation system by using airline tubing. Start a slow siphon from your tank into the bag or bucket containing the fish or invertebrate, allowing water to drip slowly. Acclimate over a period of approximately 30 minutes, gradually increasing the volume of tank water to match salinity and other water parameters.
Check Salinity
Use a refractometer to measure the salinity in the bag or acclimation container. Ensure the salinity matches your tank’s salinity before transferring the fish or invertebrate. Matching salinity helps reduce stress and prevents shock when introducing new animals.
Release Fish/Invert
Gently transfer the fish or invertebrate into the tank, avoiding netting them if possible to reduce physical stress. Allow the animal to swim out on its own if transferring from a container. Discard the acclimation water, as it may contain contaminants.

Foods we use in our fish systems
Farmed, Tested, Trusted
Aquacultured coral, real farm standards, and products we actually use.
New Dawn is built around aquacultured coral, captive-bred marine life, and practical reef support from a real coral farm. Alongside the livestock we grow, we also offer reef products and essentials that reflect the systems, standards, and day-to-day practices behind the farm itself.
Aquacultured Coral
Aquacultured coral is grown in aquarium conditions, which helps it arrive better adapted to life in a reef tank. That often means hardier coral, more predictable performance, and a clearer connection between how it was grown and how it can thrive in a customer’s system.
Farm-used reef products
The reef products we carry are not random add-ons. They are part of the equipment, supplies, and essentials that support our own farm systems and help keep the storefront connected to real reefkeeping practice.
Shipping and pickup
Shipping and local pickup should feel straightforward. We make timing, preparation, and fulfillment expectations clear so you know what to expect before your order is on the way.
Support from the farm
Support should feel direct and practical. From pre-order questions to post-arrival help, New Dawn is built to give reefkeepers a clear path to real assistance when they need it.
