Orange Storm Ocellaris Clownfish is a captive-bred designer Amphiprion ocellaris with bold, irregular white storm patterning layered over a rich orange body. Each fish develops its own balance of orange, white, and black edging, so no two are exactly alike. For reef keepers who want the familiar temperament and care profile of an Ocellaris Clownfish with a more unusual look, Orange Storms are an especially appealing choice.

Because these fish are captive-bred, they are already adapted to aquarium life and prepared foods. That makes them a practical option for hobbyists looking for a clownfish with standout patterning but dependable day-to-day care requirements.

Why Aquarists Choose Orange Storm Clownfish

  • Captive-bred Ocellaris clownfish already adjusted to home aquarium conditions
  • Distinctive storm-style white patterning on a bright orange base
  • Peaceful, reef-safe clownfish for community marine aquariums
  • A strong choice for aquarists who want a designer clown without changing the familiar care needs of Amphiprion ocellaris

Pattern And Appearance

Orange Storm clownfish combine the exaggerated white barring associated with Storm-type clownfish and the classic orange coloration of Ocellaris. Some fish show broad white patches and connecting bars, while others keep more orange visible through the body. Black edging around the fins and pattern is common, adding extra contrast and making the markings stand out even more under reef lighting.

Care And Tank Fit

Like other Ocellaris clownfish, Orange Storms are best suited to stable marine aquariums with plenty of structure, open swimming space, and calm places to settle in. A 20 gallon aquarium is the minimum recommended size for a single fish or a compatible pair. They are reef safe with corals and most invertebrates, though clownfish can become territorial around their chosen corner, host, or nesting site as they mature.

These fish are usually best kept singly or as a pair. If you want to build a pair, stick with the same species rather than mixing clownfish species. New Dawn's Pairing Clownfish guide is a useful reference before introducing a second clown.

Feeding

Orange Storm Ocellaris Clownfish are listed as eating 1mm PE Pellets and should also do well on a varied omnivorous diet that includes quality pellets and appropriately sized frozen foods. Consistent feeding helps support body condition, colour, and long-term stability in community tanks.

Anemone Hosting

Like other Amphiprion ocellaris, Orange Storms may host an anemone, but they do not require one to thrive. In aquariums, some individuals quickly adopt a host while others ignore anemones completely or choose a coral or corner of the tank instead. If you want to encourage natural hosting behaviour, see New Dawn's Anemone Hosting guide and browse the current anemone selection.

Acclimation

Temperature Match

Place the sealed bag containing the fish or invertebrate into your tank. Allow it to float for 15-20 minutes to gradually equalize the temperature between the bag and your aquarium. This step minimizes stress caused by sudden temperature changes.

Drip Acclimation

Set up a drip acclimation system by using airline tubing. Start a slow siphon from your tank into the bag or bucket containing the fish or invertebrate, allowing water to drip slowly. Acclimate over a period of approximately 30 minutes, gradually increasing the volume of tank water to match salinity and other water parameters.

Check Salinity

Use a refractometer to measure the salinity in the bag or acclimation container. Ensure the salinity matches your tank’s salinity before transferring the fish or invertebrate. Matching salinity helps reduce stress and prevents shock when introducing new animals.

Release Fish/Invert

Gently transfer the fish or invertebrate into the tank, avoiding netting them if possible to reduce physical stress. Allow the animal to swim out on its own if transferring from a container. Discard the acclimation water, as it may contain contaminants.

Aquacultured Coral

Aquacultured coral is grown in aquarium conditions, which helps it arrive better adapted to life in a reef tank. That often means hardier coral, more predictable performance, and a clearer connection between how it was grown and how it can thrive in a customer’s system.
