Benchmark ICP-OES Water Testing

Overview

Benchmark ICP-OES Water Testing is a saltwater aquarium water-analysis service using external laboratory testing and Benchmark review criteria.

Use the Chemistry Tracker to keep results together and review the next decision from the reading.

What It Does

A submitted saltwater sample is analyzed and reviewed against Benchmark working ranges for reef aquariums. The customer report identifies readings that are in range, should be monitored, or need follow-up.

Report Sections

  • Major ions
  • Trace elements
  • Nutrients
  • Pollutants and contaminants

What’s Measured

The service reviews reef-relevant major elements, trace elements, nutrients, and potential contaminants. The final analysis package determines the reported analytes.

Who It’s For

For saltwater aquarium hobbyists, coral growers, and reef system operators who need a broader chemistry view than routine at-home testing alone.

How It Works

  1. Collect and submit a clearly labeled saltwater sample.
  2. The sample is logged and prepared for external laboratory analysis.
  3. Results are reviewed against Benchmark interpretation ranges.
  4. A customer report is prepared with measured values, reference ranges, and action flags.
  5. Readings needing follow-up are highlighted.

Report Interpretation

  • In Range — within the recommended operating zone
  • Outside Ideal / Monitor — outside the ideal range but within the broader working range
  • Out of Range / Action Advised — outside the working range
  • Critical / Investigate Immediately — a result requiring immediate investigation

Sample Requirements

  • Saltwater aquarium sample only
  • Preferred sample volume: 30–50 mL
  • Sample sealed, clean, and clearly labeled
  • Collection date and tank identification included

Important Notes

  • Water testing only
  • Coral tissue, skeleton, and other solid samples are not included
  • Accurate sample labeling is required for report release
  • Leaking, contaminated, unlabeled, or insufficient samples may require replacement
