Snow Storm Ocellaris Clownfish is a captive-bred designer strain of Amphiprion ocellaris known for its predominantly white body and colour that is largely restricted to the fins. Depending on the individual or line, that remaining colour may present as black or orange on the fins, giving Snow Storms a clean, high-contrast look that stands apart from other designer clownfish.

Captive-bred clownfish are typically better adjusted to aquarium life than wild fish, and Snow Storm Ocellaris are a strong choice for reef keepers who want an unusual showpiece fish with familiar care requirements. They stay a manageable size, are reef safe, and usually adapt well to prepared foods in established aquariums.

Why Snow Storm Ocellaris Clownfish Stand Out

  • Captive-bred and well suited to home aquarium life
  • Primarily white body with colour restricted to the fins
  • Fin colour may show as black or orange depending on the individual or line
  • Distinctive designer patterning with a clean, high-contrast appearance
  • Reef safe and suitable for peaceful community reef systems
  • Usually transitions well to prepared foods such as pellets and frozen fare

Care Notes

  • Scientific name: Amphiprion ocellaris
  • Adult size: Typically around 3 inches
  • Temperament: Generally peaceful, though established individuals or pairs may defend a chosen area
  • Minimum tank size: 20 gallons
  • Reef compatibility: Reef safe with corals and most compatible invertebrates
  • Feeding: Offer a varied omnivorous diet including 1mm PE Pellets, PE Frozen Mysis Shrimp, and other quality frozen foods
  • Best kept as: A single fish or a bonded pair

Placement And Behaviour

Snow Storm Ocellaris do well in stable reef aquariums with open swimming space and rockwork for shelter. They do not need an anemone to thrive, but some individuals may choose to host one in a mature system. For more on suitable hosting options, see our Anemone Hosting page.

Who This Fish Suits Best

This is a great fit for reef keepers who want a more unusual clownfish with a bright, mostly white presentation while keeping the dependable care profile of an Ocellaris. It works well as a feature fish in smaller reefs or as part of a peaceful mixed reef community built around captive-bred livestock.

Acclimation

Temperature Match

Place the sealed bag containing the fish or invertebrate into your tank. Allow it to float for 15-20 minutes to gradually equalize the temperature between the bag and your aquarium. This step minimizes stress caused by sudden temperature changes.

Drip Acclimation

Set up a drip acclimation system by using airline tubing. Start a slow siphon from your tank into the bag or bucket containing the fish or invertebrate, allowing water to drip slowly. Acclimate over a period of approximately 30 minutes, gradually increasing the volume of tank water to match salinity and other water parameters.

Check Salinity

Use a refractometer to measure the salinity in the bag or acclimation container. Ensure the salinity matches your tank’s salinity before transferring the fish or invertebrate. Matching salinity helps reduce stress and prevents shock when introducing new animals.

Release Fish/Invert

Gently transfer the fish or invertebrate into the tank, avoiding netting them if possible to reduce physical stress. Allow the animal to swim out on its own if transferring from a container. Discard the acclimation water, as it may contain contaminants.

Aquacultured Coral

Aquacultured coral is grown in aquarium conditions, which helps it arrive better adapted to life in a reef tank. That often means hardier coral, more predictable performance, and a clearer connection between how it was grown and how it can thrive in a customer’s system.
