Green Bubble Tip Anemone

Regular price $89.99

Green Bubble Tip Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) is a rock-dwelling host anemone valued for its bright green colour, active movement, and compatibility with many clownfish pairings in captivity. In a stable, established reef aquarium, it can become a striking focal animal with flowing tentacles, strong feeding response, and the potential to settle into a long-term home in the rockwork.

This species is popular because it is one of the more practical anemones for reef keepers, but it still does best in a mature system with stable salinity, consistent lighting, and enough room to choose its own position. Like other Bubble Tip Anemones, it may show rounded “bubble” tips at times, but that look can come and go, so overall health matters more than whether the tentacles stay bubbled.

Why Reef Keepers Choose Green Bubble Tip Anemones

  • Classic Bubble Tip Anemone form with vivid green colouration
  • Can become a natural host for some clownfish in captivity
  • Usually attaches deep into rock crevices once settled
  • One of the more commonly kept and comparatively hardy host anemones
  • Adds motion, texture, and a true centerpiece feel to reef aquariums

What To Expect

A Green Bubble Tip Anemone is not a static ornamental animal. It may move through the tank until it finds a combination of light, flow, and shelter that suits it. Most specimens prefer to anchor the foot securely into a crevice in the rock while expanding the oral disc and tentacles into the open water column.

Colour and tentacle shape can vary from specimen to specimen. Some stay compact with pronounced bubble tips, while others extend longer tentacles. Healthy specimens may also grow and divide over time, so this is a good choice for aquarists who want an anemone with both display appeal and long-term interest.

Care And Placement

Green Bubble Tip Anemones are best kept in an established reef tank rather than a newly set up system. Provide medium to high lighting, moderate water movement, and a stable marine environment with clean water and room around the animal. Placement should be on rockwork where the foot can bury deeply into a protected crevice.

Because this anemone may wander before settling, pump guards and covered overflow intakes are strongly recommended. Give it space from nearby corals and other anemones, as it can sting neighbours once established.

  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Lighting: Medium to high
  • Flow: Moderate, indirect flow
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive
  • Placement: Rockwork with a secure crevice for the foot

Feeding And Compatibility

Entacmaea quadricolor gets much of its energy from symbiotic algae under appropriate lighting, but many reef keepers also offer occasional meaty foods such as finely sized shrimp or other marine-based frozen foods. Feed sparingly and prioritize stability over heavy feeding.

Many hobbyists keep Bubble Tip Anemones specifically for clownfish displays. They are a well-known host species, but hosting is never guaranteed, especially with captive-bred clownfish. If you are planning a clownfish-and-anemone setup, a stable aquarium and patient expectations matter more than forcing the interaction.
