Goniopora sp.

Goniopora corals, also known as Flowerpot Corals are a mesmerizing and enchanting addition to any reef aquarium. Belonging to the family Poritidae, these corals are widely cherished for their delicate and intricate flower-like polyps, which lend a touch of movement to the underwater landscape.

Goniopora corals typically have a thin skeletal structure, adorned with numerous polyps that extend during the day to feed and display their mesmerizing beauty. The polyps come in a wide array of colours, including vibrant shades of pink, purple, blue, green, and even combinations of hues, enhancing the aquarium's visual appeal.

They are photosynthetic and depend on symbiotic algae called zooxanthellae residing within their tissues for a portion of their nutritional requirements. These corals also actively capture plankton and other small organisms from the water column using their specialized tentacles. During the day, their polyps extend to maximize light exposure for photosynthesis, while at night, they retract for protection.
