Rainbow Bubble Tip Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) is a colourful Bubble Tip Anemone valued for its fluorescent mix of red, orange, pink, and green tones, along with the inflated tentacle tips this species is known for under strong reef lighting. It is a popular choice for reef keepers who want a true focal animal with natural movement and the potential to host compatible clownfish.
Like other Bubble Tip Anemones, this species does best in a mature, stable aquarium where it can anchor its foot deep into a rock crevice and choose its own final position. Expect some movement after introduction while it searches for the combination of light, flow, and shelter it prefers.
Why Reef Keepers Choose It
- Bright rainbow coloration with strong visual contrast under reef lighting
- Classic Bubble Tip shape with tentacles that may appear more bubbled or elongated depending on conditions
- Excellent centerpiece for dedicated anemone or mixed reef systems with space to accommodate its sting
- May host compatible clownfish in the home aquarium
Care Notes
- Scientific name: Entacmaea quadricolor
- Care level: Easy to moderate in established systems
- Lighting: Medium to high
- Flow: Moderate to high, with enough movement to keep the anemone clean without blasting the tentacles
- Placement: Rockwork with a protected crevice for the foot
- Temperament: Aggressive toward nearby corals and other anemones
- Aquarium size: 30 gallons or larger
Bubble Tip Anemones can expand significantly when established, and healthy specimens may reach roughly 12 inches across in suitable conditions. Leave space around the animal, protect pump intakes, and avoid placing delicate corals within reach of its tentacles.
Colour And Appearance
Rainbow Bubble Tip Anemones can shift in appearance over time depending on lighting spectrum and intensity, feeding, nutrient levels, and overall water chemistry. Because of that, you should expect some variation from tank to tank, and the same anemone may not hold exactly the same colouration in every system.
Feeding And Placement
Most of the anemone's energy comes from light, but occasional feeding can support long-term health and growth. If you choose to feed, offer small portions of meaty marine foods such as shrimp, fish, or worms. If you want a convenient target-feeding option, ReefBlizzard - Extreme Sinking Pellets are suitable for anemones and other reef invertebrates.
For the best chance of success, place this anemone where it can secure its foot deep into rockwork and then allow it time to settle. It is normal for a newly introduced Bubble Tip Anemone to move until it finds a location it likes.
