The Trochus Snail is a favourite clean-up crew grazer for good reason. Its striking cream-and-maroon conical shell is easy to recognize, while its steady appetite for film algae and diatoms helps keep rockwork and glass looking clean without disturbing corals.

In-House Bred at New Dawn Aquaculture

These Trochus snails are bred in house at New Dawn Aquaculture. We breed them ourselves, bringing another aquacultured grazer to our clean-up crew selection alongside our Stomatella and Collonista snails.

Why reef keepers choose Trochus

Trochus snails work across glass and hard surfaces, grazing green film algae, brown diatoms, biofilm, and other soft microalgae. They are active without becoming disruptive and are generally better able to right themselves than many other cone-shaped grazing snails.

Feeding

Add Trochus snails to an established aquarium with enough natural growth to support them. In very clean systems, supplement with a small piece of dried seaweed or an algae-based sinking food and remove anything uneaten before it deteriorates.

Acclimation and compatibility

Acclimate slowly because marine snails are sensitive to sudden changes in salinity and temperature. Place the snail upright after acclimation and avoid copper-based medications. Keep it away from pufferfish, triggerfish, predatory wrasses, and other animals that hunt snails.

Good to know: Trochus snails sometimes reproduce in established reef aquariums. A brief cloudy spawning event is normally harmless and can be a sign that the animals are settled.
